Al-Helal Academy (AHA) of Krishnanagar defeated Sunshine College of Bhairahawa by 35 runs to win the MGVC Inter-college National Cricket Tournament title at the Siddhartha Nagar grounds on Wednesday.
Man-of-the-match Anurag Sharma made 53 runs as AHA reached 131-7 in 20 overs before a three-wicket haul from Sahabaz Khan restricted Sunshine to 96 all out in 18.3 overs. Monu Rai was the leading scorer for Sunshine with 22 runs, while Wasir Ahmed made 15 and Manoj Baishya scored 12.
Alok Yadav and Aasif Hussain also picked up two wickets each for AHA that include eight players from Lucknow. Mayank Yadav had one scalp.
Anurag hit four boundaries in 53 balls to post a respectable total for AHA. Prashant Singh also contributed invaluable 32 runs for the winners, while Aasif and Harshit made 19 and 11 respectively.
Man Bahadur Thapa picked up four wickets for Sunshine with Jugesh Barma, Ajit Yadav and Wasir also picking up one each.
Champions AHA collected a cash purse of Rs 100,000 and Sunshine got hold of Rs 50,000. Player of the series Mayank was given Rs 5,000. Mayank also took the best bowler’s honor and Shankar Rana of Sunshine was adjudged the best batsman.
A total of 16 teams had participated in the tournament sponsored by Modal Global Visas Consultancy and organized by Kanchanjunga Entertainment Pvt Ltd.
