ACC Championship called off

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has called off this year’s ACC Championship – a two-day cricket tournament which was supposed to be participated in by the top four teams from the ACC Premier League.

The ACC Championship was originally scheduled for December 7-14 in the United Arab Emirates this year. Nepal, Afghanistan, UAE and Oman were the teams scheduled to compete in the tournament.

Nepal had finished third in the ACC Premier League – won by Afghanistan — held from May 1-7 in Malaysia. UAE had ended up second and Oman finished third.

Though the regional cricket governing body is yet to make an official confirmation, sources said that a busy schedule of Afghanistan and the UAE has led to the scrapping of this year’s edition. Afghanistan and UAE both are playing the 2015 World Cup beginning from February in Australia and New Zealand.

Both teams are fine-tuning their preparation for the World Cup with the ICC High Performance program in Australia. The ACC Championship was introduced for the first time.
