Abhishek lifts Janakpur, DCA ride luck

A five-wicket haul from Janakpur lifted Janakpur, while Dhangadhi Cricket Academy (DCA) rode on their luck to enter the second round of the Wai Wai Gautam Buddha International Cricket Tournament on Monday.

Janakpur got the better of cancelling out a modest start from Rajasthan Cricket Academy (RCA) in a four-wicket victory. Abhishek was instrumental in handing Janakpur the victory after he rattled the top and middle order of RCA in the first match of the day.

DCA, meanwhile, had rain to thank for after they sailed through with a toss of the coin following a rain intervention in their match against Delhi Cricket Council (DCC). DCC were 30-4 in 7.2 overs but continuous rain meant no play was possible thereafter.

In the first match, RCA were 111 all out in 18.3 overs before a solid start from Pravash Jha and Ansarul Rain spurred Janakpur to 112-6 in 18.2 overs. Pravash and Ansarul shared 58 runs for the first wicket. Pravash made 29 off 36 with two boundaries before he was removed by Kaptan Meena. Ansarul soon followed his opening partner but by the time the game was already safe for Janakpur.

Ansarul posted a match-high 35 from 43 deliveries with two boundaries before Sunil Sah (10 not out) completed a successful run chase.

RCA were cruising along at 86-3 at one stage but once Abhishek got rid of their top scorer Shiv Singh, the collapse began. Singh made 33 off 29 with three fours and a six, while opener Jasveer Singh made 21 off 31 with two boundaries.

Dinesh Kumar also contributed 17 off 15 with one six and a four. Man-of-the-match Jha returned with the figures of 3-17 from 3.3 overs. Divyanshu Malik and Mohammad had one scalp apiece.
