Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club hammered Region-II (Birgunj) by seven wickets in the Senior One Day National Cricket Tournament semi-final at the Pulchowk Engineering College grounds on Monday.
Aarif Sheikh picked up five wickets as Birgunj were skittled out for just 134 runs in 42.2 overs. APF replied with 135-3 in 18 overs where a quick fire knock from opener Subash Khakurel eased their chase.
APF lost opener Sanjay Shrestha (four) early in the game before Subash and Pradeep Airee shared 85 runs for the second wicket. Pradeep made 34 off 36 with five boundaries and lost his wicket to Irshad Ahmed.
Subash continued to play his shots and was unfortunate not to carry his bat in the team’s victory handing a return catch to Irshad when his team was just five runs away from victory. Subash made 71 off 52 with nine boundaries and two sixes.
Earlier, Anil Sah and Suraj Prasad Kurmi were the only Birgunj batsmen to show some resilience after Aarif struck on regular intervals. Anil made 40 off 52 with six boundaries and Suraj scored 28 from 73 with four boundaries. Ramnaresh Giri (17) was the remaining batsman to make runs in double figures.
Yagyaman Kumal and Basanta Regmi also picked up two wickets each for APF who will now meet Tribhuvan Army Club in the final on Tuesday.
