Former U-16 sensation Aakash Bista was the suprise omission as the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Monday named a final 15-member squad for the ACC U-19 Asia Cup.
Aakash was adjudged the Emerging Player of the Year in the last edition of the Pepsi Standard Charatered National Twenty20 Tournament. Aakash was adjdudged the man-of-the-series when Nepal finished second in the ACC U-16 Elite in Malaysia last year.
Along with Aakash, Amar Singh Routela and Irshad Ahmed lost their place following a second round of selection in the closed-camp. Bhuwan Karki will lead the side when the ACC U-19 Asia Cup begins at the United Arab Emirates from December 28 to January 4.
Other members in the final squad included Ram Naresh Giri, Prakash Bista ‘A’, Lalit Singh Bhandari, Bibhatsu Thapa, Somesh Yadav, Siddhanta Lohani, Yagya Man Kumal, Sushil Kandel, Sunil Dhamala, Raju Rijal, Som Pal Kami, Prem Tamang, Amit Shrestha and Aarif Sheikh.
Rahul Pratap Singh, Sushan Bhari Shrestha, Dillip Nath and Hari Shankar Shah were named as reserves. Nepal have been drawn in Group ‘A’ of the ACC U-19 Asia Cup where they will play against age group teams from Asian Test playing giants India and Pakistan along with hosts UAE.
Group ‘B’ includes Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Malaysia. The ACC U-19 Asia Cup is into its second edition. Nepal had crashed out from the group stage in the inaugural edition.
