Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Thursday announced a 32-member preliminary squad to join the close-camp for Nepal’s upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 Tri-Series involving hosts Oman and the USA.
Nepal are playing their second series of League 2 which is the gateway for 2022 50-over World Cup. They currently have two wins – against USA — and two losses (against Oman) following the first series they hosted on their back yard in February, 2020.
The closed-camp is set to begin from Saturday. The players were picked up from their performance in the recently concluded Prime Minister Cup One Day National cricket tournament.
Other players not involved in the PM Cup were also called-up and included former skipper Paras Khadka, Sompal Kami, Karan KC, Kushal Malla and Sandeep Lamichhane. While Sandeep was participating in the Australian Big Bash League, Paras, Sompal, Karan and Kushal have been involved in the ongoing Abu Dhabi T-10 League in the UAE.
Tournament’s best batsman Prithu Baskota, second highest scorer Aasif Sheikh, third highest run-getter Saurav Khanal, best bowler Shahab Alam, emerging player Bibek Yadav and man-of-the-series Kamal Singh Airee were the unanimous picks.
Others in the 32-member preliminary squad included Bikram Sob, Rajesh Pulami, Rohit Paudel, Sushan Bhari Shrestha, Sandeep Jora, Sunil Dhamala, Kushal Bhurtel, Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi, Hari Shankar Sah, Ramnaresh Giri, Arjun Kumal and Krishna Karki.
Likewise, Khadag Bahadur Bohora, Anuj Chunara, Pawan Sarraf, Sharad Vesawkar, Abinash Bohora, Binod Bhandari, Dipendra Singh Airee and Aarif Sheikh were also picked up.
