Gyanendra Malla ensured that he will do his part as an opener for the ICC World Cricket League Championship away matches against Hong Kong after hitting a ton in Nepal’s 52-run victory against Mylapore Recreational Club in Chennai on Thursday.

As Nepal’s registered their second consecutive victory in the preparation tour of India, it has been Gyanendra who has been leading from the front with the bat. Gyanendra had also made 39 runs in Nepal’s whopping 153-run victory over Dindigul Dragons in the first match on Tuesday.

Gyanendra is the late entrant among Nepal’s list of centurions in one-day matches despite making centuries in unofficial matches. He was simply scintillating when he hammered 141 runs against a visiting Marylebone Cricket Club in 2010.

Before Nepal left for the ICC World Cricket League Division III tournament in Malaysia, Gyanendra had also hit 167 off 157 balls against Ragama Cricket Club during a preparation tour in Sri Lanka. And Thursday witnessed his third century in unofficial century of his playing career.

Gyanendra has already broke the duck of century in official games which he did against Singapore in the 2014 Division III tournament in Malaysia and with another unofficial century to his name and crucial games against Hong Kong (on October 13 and 15) looming, the opener has given a huge sigh of relief to the team think tank.

After Sagar Pun, Sushan Bhari and Dipendra Singh Airee picked up two wickets each, Nepal managed to restrict Mylapore to 199-8 in 50 overs handing their second consecutive victory in the India tour. Nepal have two more matches left in the tournament and now the onus will be on other batsmen to prove their mettle.
