India is on command after the play of day two in spite Nuwan Pradeep's six-for and former skipper Angelo Mathews' much needed half century for Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka are 154 for five in reply of India's 600 runs on first innings.

India started the day on 399 for 3 but lost both set batsmen Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane in quick succession. Pujara and Rahane started the day with 144 not out and 39 not out. They got out scoring 153 runs and 57 runs respectively.

Ravi Ashwin, promoted at number six ahead of debutant Hardik Pandey, also scored valuable 47 runs before edging the ball to keeper. Hardik Pandeya also scored blistering 50 runs from just 48 balls before dismissing as a last India's wicket. Pandeya who scored three sixes made his name into history book, most number of sixes for debutante in an inning for India.

Three lower order batsmen made impressive contribution with 83 runs that means India finished first inning with a huge total of 600 runs on the board as Mohammed Shami made 30 with 3 sixes and Umesh Yadav made 11 with four and six.

In reply, India started the preceding picking Dimuth Karunaratne for 2 by Yadav then 61 runs partnership between Upul Tharanga and Danushka Gunathilaka had been broken by Shami then lost Kushal Mendis for duck in the span of four balls as they score read 68 for 3. Upul Tharanga was looking set but some incredible piece of fielding from Abhinav Mukund and glove-work from Shah sent him back to pavilion for 34 runs.

Sri Lanka still need 247 runs to avoid follow on, Mathews is still at the crease with score of 54 runs, the only hope at the moment for home side.

Shami picked up two wickets and Ashwin has one to his name, thanks to Mukund who was at short leg took one handed ripper. Host has finished the day scoring 154 for 5 wickets, effectively 6 wickets as Gunaratne is ruled out due to injury.
