Attariya fightback to beat Goldens

Apr 10, 2017 | Eddie Van Brooks |
Gyanendra Malla's CYC Attariya staged a remarkable comeback with the bat to defeat Kathmandu Goldens in the first match of the Sagarmatha Cement Dhangadhi Premier League (DPL) on Monday

In the first match at the SSP cricket grounds, Attariya recovered from 5-57 to post 146-6 in 20 overs courtesy a half century from Yogendra Singh Karki. Goldens, led by national team left arm spinner Basanta Regmi, were restricted to 106-6 after seamer Avinash Bohora and spinner Binod Lama ran riot with the ball.

Goldens were heading towards a humiliating total after they were restricted to 33-7 in 9.2 overs but Sompal Kami and Santosh Bhatta avoided the humiliation adding 61 runs for the eighth wicket before the team was bundled out for 106 in 18.4 overs.

Sompal top scored with a 38-ball 40 hitting four boundaries and a six, while Santosh made 31 off 23 balls with three fours and a six. Man-of-the-match Bohora picked up 4-11 from 3.4 overs, his last victim including Sompal. Binod took 3-9 from four overs.

Earlier, Attariya had the worst possible start after half of their team headed back to pavilion with just 57 runs on the board. However, Yogendra fought back with a 69-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Gyanendra Kunwar.

Yogendra made 57 off 41 with seven fours and a six, while Gyanendra was unbeaten on 34 off 23 with five fours. Sompal took 2-30 from four overs for Goldens.
