Sharad's Rhinos upset Paras' APF

Sharad Vesawkar's Nepali Rhinos upset Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club by five wickets to enter the quarter-finals of the second Ruslan Cup Twenty20 cricket tournament on Thursday.


Rhinos consisting of Sonu Tamang, Sanjay Shrestha, Rupesh Srivastav, Pawan Sharraf and Sushil Kandel as the settled names, restricted Paras Khadka-led APF to 123-8 in 20 overs.


Meanwhile, Mehboob Alam's half century coupled with a three-wicket burst as Himalayan White House crushed PC Fighter XI by 107 runs. Rhinos were heading towards a probable defeat after they were reduced to 79-5 with Basanta Regmi picking up two wickets.


But Sonu and Sharad combined for an unbeaten 50-run stand to sail their team home. Sonu clobbered three fours and two sixes, while Sharad was unbeaten on a 25-ball 20. Jitendra Thakuri was the second best scorer with a 31-ball 32 that included three fours and a six.


Bhuwan Karki had lifted APF above triple figures scoring a 16-ball 33 not out with three fours and two sixes. Khadka, Subash Khakurel and Aasif Sheikh made 18 runs each. Man-of-the-match Sharad also took two wickets.


In the first match, Mehboob got involved in two crucial partnerships guiding White House to 169-9 in 20 over. He soon returned picking up the first three PC Fighter wickets reducing them to 3-0 before being eventually bundled out for 62 in 16 overs.


Opener Naresh Chand was the only PC Fighter batsman to offer some resistance making a 34-ball 22 with two fours and a six. Sandeep Dhungana and Hasim Ansari also picked up two wickets each.


Man-of-the-match Mehboob had steadied the ship for White House with an 82-run stand for the third wicket with Subhendu Pandey. The No 3 batsman made 38 off 28 with eight boundaries.


Mehboob then shared 51 runs for the sixth wicket with Pranit Thapa Magar who made 32 off 18 with five fours and a six. Amar Singh Routela also contributed 25 off 19 with two boundaries.


Mehboob made 51 off 45 with five fours and four sixes. Chandra Dev Joshi took three wickets for PC Fighter, while Chandra Dev Pant and Arun Chand had two scalps apiece.
