TAC, NPC file handsome victories

Jan 10, 2017 | Safal Regmi |

Departmental teams Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) and Nepal Police Club (NPC) registered convincing victories in the second Ruslan Cup Twenty20 cricket tournament on Tuesday.

While TAC hammered New Rising Star by nine wickets, NPC coasted to an 81-run victory over Himalayan Cricket Academy (HCA). Earlier, Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun inaugurated the tournament.

In the first match of the day, NPC rode on a half century from Sunil Dhamala and a late cameo from Kushal Bhurtel to amass 183-6 in 20 overs. HCA were bundled out for 102 runs in 19.4 overs with only opener Bhupendra Thapa scoring in double digits.

Thapa top scored in the game with 73 runs from 59 balls and hit eight fours and three sixes before he was dismissed as the ninth batsman. Aarif Sheikh and Prem Tamang picked up three wickets each for NPC with Dipendra Airee also getting two scalps.

NPC began cautiously and their opening pair of Dilip Nath and Sunil Dhamala laid the foundation with a 61-run stand. Nath made 26 off 25 with three fours and a six. Dhamala made 54 off 56 with three fours and two sixes.

NPC were heading towards a mediocre total but Bhurtel perfectly connected the ball slamming three sixes and as many fours in his 11-ball 33 not out.

Later, seamer Jitendra Mukhiya picked up four wickets as TAC squeezed out New Rising Star for just 87 runs in 18.3 overs. All-rounder Sagar Pun also had three scalps for the Army-men who reached 90-1 in 11.1 overs.

Pun struck 39 not out off 28 balls with five boundaries and a six, while opener Mahesh Chhetri scored 24 off 23 with five hits to the fence. Naresh Budhayer was unbeaten on 18 off 16 with three fours.
