DCA Chairman and SPA Director Subash Bahadur Shahi said his team had worked a lot to come up with the concept. "I have been in Kathmandu to materialize this concept for a long time and finally we are proud to announce the tournament officially," said Shahi during a press conference in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

The DPL is merger of SPA Cup – an inter-college cricket tournament – and Dhangadi Cricket League which was played between five local teams of the city following an auction.

Paras had words of praise for Shahi. "Its a great initiation from Subash and the hard work he has put in will work in the betterment of the game. As players, we are happy that cricket gets decentralized by having a tournament like this outside Kathmandu. We need to make this tournament even bigger," said Paras.
