Clarke expects more from Nepal's leggie Lamichhane

Sep 24, 2016 | Eddie Van Brooks |

Australian World Cup winning skipper Michael Clarke said people can expect more than what Nepal's Sandeep Lamichhane is currently putting into disposal.

Lamichhane made an impressive debut with Western Suburbs in Australia Grade cricket picking up 1-18 from eight overs in his team's six-wicket victory over Mosman at the Allan Border Oval in Sydneyon Saturday.

Lamichhane has already been a star in Nepal's cricketing picture hailed for his variations and the mind he uses during the game. But Clarke has suggested to expect more from him.

"Sandeep has a lot of talent, there’s no doubt about it, but I think he offers a hell of a lot more than that, and I think that’s why I’ve done whatever I could to try and get him to Sydney,” Clarke said as quoted by Australian website cricket.com.au.

"He’s a lovely young man. He’s extremely respectful of his fans and the people that support him. He’s very close to his family and I think he fits in perfectly at this great club at Western Suburbs."

"I think today was a little glimpse of what's to come. I don’t want to put any pressure on him (but) he loves the game as much as anyone I’ve seen and that’s what I think is important."

"Let him play, let him enjoy his cricket. He’s around good people here at Western Suburbs. The future will take care of itself."

Clarke had invited Lamichhane to Australia to undergo training in his academy (Michael Clarke Cricket Academy) and play Grade cricket for Western Suburbs, the home club of the Australian legend.

He was impressed by Lamichhane during the Hong Kong Twenty20 Blitz in May this year when the two lined-up for the same team – Kowloon Cantons.
