Azhar sacked as captain by Lahore

Azhar Ali, Pakistan ODI team captain has been sacked by his franchise team Lahore Qalandars. Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Lahore though has included Azhar in their team but omitted him from captain.

According to the team they are planning to buy former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum who will lead the team for the next season.

Lahore director of cricket operations, Aqib Javed announced that McCullum will be the captain of the team also he will be helping team as batting mentor. 

“Yes it is true that we are brining McCullum in our team for next season. McCullum is credible and his performance are supereb as captain. Also we are signing him as our batting mentor as he has good experience of playing international cricket which will certainly help our team,” said Javed. “I think it is a bit earlier to announce McCullum joining us. But we are really happy to have him. He also has aggreed to join us.”

Lahore was one of the team having most explosive batting lineup in last edition of PSL. They had explosive batsmen like Chirs Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Umar Akmal but just managed to win two matches out of eight matches they played. After the bad results Azhar’s captaincy under the cloud of doubt.

Azhar was good with bat scoring 183 runs through-out the tournament. He was in third position for scoring most runs for Lahore after Umar Akmal (335 runs in seven innings) and Cameron Delport (227 runs in seven innings). Azhar scored just one half century in seven innings with highest score of 61 runs and strike rate of 106.39.
