The 2016 ICC U-19 World Cup duo Raju Rijal and Prem Tamang have been provided sports scholarships by NIC Asia Bank on Thursday.
During a programme, NIC Asia CEO Laxman Risal and the two crickets signed a memorandum of understanding that will see them getting a stipend of Rs 20,000 per month for the next two years. The agreement comes following an initiation from the Cricket Players Association of Nepal (CPAN).
Apart from a month salary of Rs 20,000, the company will also assist in buying crickets gets for Raju and Prem. While Raju's knocks were crucial in helping Nepal reach the U-19 World Cup quarter-finals, Prem was the leading run scorer from the country in the tournament with 152 runs.
Prem had also taken five wickets during the tournament in Bangladesh earlier this year. "We are providing the sports scholarships so that these players can focus on their game more than anything else," said Risal during the programme.
CPAN had also initiated in landing a similar agreement for leg spinning sensation Sandeep Lamichhane with Sanima Development Bank.
