Himalayan Cricket Academy (HCA) made short work of big names to win the first National Inter-club Youth Twenty20 Cricket Championship with a whopping 40-run victory over Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) at the TU Stadium on Wednesday.
The Armymen boasted big names – Sharad Vesawkar, Binod Bhandari, Naresh Budhayer, Anil Mandal, Jitendra Mukhiya, Sagar Pun, Chandra Saud, Avinash Karn, Rajesh Pulami – in their squad but it was the small boys from HCA who took away the game by a storm, particularly with the ball.
After losing the toss, HCA were asked to bat first and they compiled a modest 140-7 from 20 overs. The total, however, turned out to be a mammoth for TAC who were bundled out for just 100 runs in 17.4 overs.
Former U-19 international Lalit Singh Bhandari took 3-10 from his 3.4 overs, while ex youth team skipper Bhuwan Karki and little know Abhinash Bohora took two wickets apiece.
TAC were never comfortable in their chase and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Only opener Naresh Budhayer (23) managed to cross 20 hitting two sixes and as many boundaries in 26 balls. Chandra was their next best scorer with 17 off eight that included two sixes and a four.
HCA had lost their opener Santosh Bhatta (six) with just eight runs on the board but tournament's best batsman Bhupendra Thapa pushed the team with a 48-run partnership for the second wicket with Bhim Sarki (14).
Bhupendra lost his wicket for 30 off 35 that included four boundaries but Amar Singh Routela and Dinesh Agri guided the team to a safe total. Dinesh made 24 off 19 with three fours and a six, while Amar clobbered two sixes and two fours in his 10-ball 21.
Sagar and Jitendra took two wickets each for TAC with Avinash and Sharad also picking up one wicket apiece.
