Sompal to get government honour

Nepal's fast bowling sensation Sompal Kami is set to be honoured with Sports Talent Award.

 

Ministry of Youth and Sports is honouring Sompal along with 11 other sports personalities from six different sports discipline. The award will be handed over during a ceremony onAugust 12 during the World Youth Day.

 

Apart from Sompal, Bimala Tamang of karate, Gyani Chunara of taekwondo, Diwash Shrestha of kick-boxing, para-athlete and visually impaired cricketer Bikram Bahadur Rana, Keshari Chaudhary, Bina Budhathoki, Sunil Chauhdary and Prativa Chaudhary of athletics will be the players receiving the honour.

 

The award holds a cash purse of Rs 100,000. Coaches Sanju Maharjan of Karate and Rajani Maiya Joshi will also get the honour. They will get Rs 50,000 apiece.

 

"We have decided to felicitate these players according to their performance in national and international sports. Additionally, the news covered in the media also played a crucial part in picking them up," said Chooda Mani Poudel, Secretary at the MoYS.
