RK Sharma, a Non Resident Nepali (NRN) in Qatar, has chipped in with Rs 151,000 for the Nepali national cricket team on Friday.
Sharma, a contractor in Qatar who is in Nepal for a short visit, handed over the cheque to national cricket team skipper Paras Khdaka and opener Naresh Budhayer during a ceremony at the Nepal Sports Journalists Forum. Paras appreciated Sharma's effort.
"More than the amount it is the gesture that needs to be appreciated. We require support from the corporate and private sectors and it’s a good motivation to us," said Paras. Sharma said the chip-in came as a responsibility.
"I am surprised to see how the state and the government has turned deaf years to address the success achieved by the national team. Players are like soldiers serving their country in the war. I would like to assure you that we are always with you and can come up with more in near future," said Sharma.
CAN Chief Executive Officer Bhawana Ghimire lauded the effort from Sharma adding: "We are planning for a players' welfare fund. It will be a good investment that would get return in the future." The amount was given for national team's appearance in the ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh in March last year.
